This workshop is intended for people who are new to platinum printing. It lasts for one day with an optional second day for further printing practice.
On day one we will work with your negatives to develop the basic platinum printing skills. Topics we will cover include: what is a platinum print, what makes a good negative, choosing the right paper for your vision, preparing the chemistry, coating and drying the paper, UV exposure, and developing the print. On day one we will print on Arches Platine paper because this is a high quality and popular paper which allows bright highlights and dark shadow tones.
On day two (which is optional) we will concentrate on more printing experience and some advanced topics such as humidity control. Depending on the level of interest we can also cover working with Buxton paper, print finishing (spotting and mounting), alternative UV light sources, and troubleshooting.
You will be working with your negatives throughout the workshop so you will need to bring a selection with you. If you have any concerns about which negatives to bring then please talk to me in plenty of time before the workshop so I can advise you. All other materials are provided by me and are covered by the workshop fee. You may also want to bring some of your prints (not necessarily platinum) to show to discuss during the workshop.
If you would like to use digital negatives during the workshop then please let me know in plenty of time so that I can prepare the necessary materials.
Please contact me for further information or to make a booking.
