This photograph marked a turning point for me.
It needed a 30 second exposure because the light was so low. If you look closely you can see how the model's breathing has softened all the detail of her chest, ribs and belly.
Emerson wrote about two hypothetical photographers, each making a picture of the same tree. One of them showed the tree, with every leaf and branch in perfect detail. The other made a photo full of motion and blur because they photographed the wind rather than the tree.
It took me a while to realise it, but this is my photograph of the wind not the tree. It opened my eyes to the possibilities of movement as another emotional dimension in my work.
